The history of Nellemann

For more than 119 years Nellemann has been leading on the Scandinavian automotive market and today we are the workplace of more than 325 committed staff members.

History

2017

Nellemann acquires the majority stake of Svenningsens Maskinforretning A/S, taking the leading position in import of road, park and agricultural machinery in Scandinavia. Brands such as Kubota (Japan), Bobcat and Textron (USA) as well as Schmidt, Nido and Holder (Germany) now become part of the Nellemann family.

2014

Nellemann adds Swedish Volvo to the portfolio of premium brands and is now both distributor and car dealer of Volvo in Denmark.

2012

Nellemann launches the annual Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix with royals and Formula 1 stars attending the event.

2011

Nellemann launches its own leasing company, Nellemann Leasing, which offers both commercial leases, private leases and split leases. The cars offered include premium brands such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche.

2008

Nellemann starts distribution in 12 countries of the American Fisker Automotive, which is known as one of the world’s first luxury plug-in hybrid cars. However, the production of Fisker Karma stopped in November 2012 following the bankruptcy of Fisker’s battery supplier. Nellemann distributed Fisker Karma in Scandinavia, Benelux and the Ukraine.

2008

Nellemann is distributing Japanese Isuzu on the Danish market and re-launches the Isuzu pickup in the beginning of 2014

2005

Nellemann takes over the distribution of the South Korean car brand SsangYong in Finland and the Baltic States but is unfortunately shut down in 2008 due to the supplier’s financial challenges.

2000

This year shows a substantial increase in the number of Nellemann car retailers. The Nellemann Group also improves the quality of existing Nellemann car retailers.

2007

The year when Nellemann enters the car leasing market by establishing a joint car leasing company in Denmark in cooperation with Hertz. In 2011 the cooperation with Hertz is put to an end, when Nellemann establishes its own leasing company Nellemann Leasing.

1996

Nellemann introduces KIA to the Danish market, and the same year Jac Nellemann takes over the company. Right from the beginning KIA is a commercial success, and today KIA is among the most popular car brands in Denmark.

Jac Nellemann, grandchild of Nellemann’s founder, is now the owner of the Nellemann Group. Jac Nelleman is a race car driver himself and deeply passionate in motor sports. His business background is running his own auto parts company for some years and working with marketing in the boat business. He has initiated new projects to motor sports such as Formel Ford and Sport 2000.

1995

Nellemann starts importing the British luxury car brand Aston Martin in Denmark.

1978

In 1978 Nellemann starts import and distribution of the American John Deere agricultural machinery and later on also John Deere’s machinery for gardens and parks. Nellemann runs this business until 2012, when John Deere chooses to handle it themselves.

1969

In the late 1960’s Nellemann takes the position as the biggest importer in the Danish car industry and this is partly fueled by car brands such as Morris Marina, Minor and Mini becoming huge commercial successes.

1921

Nellemann imports the first van to Denmark

1905

Nellemann imports its first car to Denmark. It was the Minerva, a Belgian car brand, which then was considered a luxury car.

The cornerstone of the Nellemann Group is laid in 1900, when Vilhelm Nellemann opens a small bicycle shop in Randers. A few years later Nellemann sells his first car and already by the 1920’s Nellemann has established a position as a major automotive importer and dealer in Denmark.
